Deep Blue
This piece uses a mix of plastic bags and cotton parcel twine.
We think of cotton as an environmentally friendly product because it is a natural fibre, but in fact most cotton is produced using loads of chemicals. If you can, choose organic cotton products.
First I crocheted the cotton base (a bit hard on the fingers).
Next I used blue plastic bags that were the inner wrapping for clothes delivered by a well known mail order catalogue. These I cut into strips and attached to the crocheted base using the traditional knotting technique used for hand made carpets.
The result is a very tactile piece that can be manipulated to make different shapes – it can even be turned completely inside-out!
