Fragile Collar
Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, we lived in a world where medicine was taken from a teaspoon.
We already had the teaspoon and we used the same one over and over again (being sure to wash it in between). The medicine was dispensed in easily re-used glass bottles which we returned to the chemist when the medicine was finished.
‘Fragile Collar’ was made from the plastic measuring cups that were delivered with every prescription to a friend who was very ill and would need the medicine for the rest of his life. A measuring cup was duly delivered every fortnight. He saved them for me and asked me to make something from them. He wore a neck brace so the idea of the collar came to me. I threaded the cups like beads and then used the plastic bags (part of the packaging that his paraphernalia was delivered in) to crochet a foundation and create a fringe.
